Blog Entry: Morning Staffy Lovers After spending several hours trawling the net going goggle eyed I have finally found some stats and information re attacks from staffies, rotts etc. In 2008 5221 people were attackeds by dogs (bitten) of which 1250 were children, 2009 attacks were up by 14%. I am not going to post the link as I appreciate some of you may feel upset so if you wish to look at the site just msg me and ill forward the link, please have an open mind when you view. (some of the pictures are heart breaking) The most relevant information is at the top and the bottom of the page.  After reading this I agree with a lot of the sensible logical stuff it wants to see put in place. eg: All dogs should be chipped All dogs and their owners should be on a national register Each dog owner should hold a licence and be able to demonstrate at point of applying for a licence that they are responsible, accountable and importantly are able to afford a dog and can provide the conditions that the dog requires Vets registers should be introduced and made available to the authorities where required Breeders be required to vet and register purchasers I can see somewhat where the author of this site is coming from, it isnt about muzzling our breed for the sake of it as it is recognised that Labs and Spaniels cause more incidents of biting but.. and this is the issue they do not cause the type of damage our breed and other strong dogs can cause. Would you rather be bitten by a staffy or a spaniel? Id go for the latter every time! 28k is the weight proposed that dogs go onto a register. Another very interesting observation is that from what I have read many of these attacks have taken place in the home by a family pet, muzzling a dog outdoors will do nothing to prevent this type of incident. As well as protesting about enforced muzzling we should be pro-actively encouraging the government to put in place the legal requirements for dog ownership, breeding and selling, that I feel would go a long way towards resolving status ownership, purchasing to fight, cruelty and make people take responsibility for their pet and their actions Anyway, think out of your box if you look at this site, dont get cross, we have to be able to understand both sets of arguments and hopefully find a solution that will satisfy and benefit us all. Sadly some people have lost their most precious thing in life, a child to a dog attack.  Christine and Ruby doo xxxxxxxxxxxxx
