Spade D-Day
Posted On 23/07/2008 15:36:14 by tonytiges
I always intended to get Bliss Spade asap. At 6 months of age she had her first season... which went really well. I've seen Bliss develop into a real character; cheeky but very obediant.
The time has come for her op... which is this friday..
I really have mixed feelings about getting Bliss spade. I know that for health reasons she should have the op... but I am afraid that it will alter her character.. change her.
I don't think I would ever breed Bliss.. even though I think she would make an excelent mother. I would not have the time.. and I would never. in a million years, be ale to give any of the pups up! I would be up to my ankles in puppy poo in no time!

Anyone have any advice as to what to expect after. Any tips wopuld be most welcome!

Its a big worry for me. Bliss loves running around.. like most staffs she is very energetic and will often let you know if we are late for taking her for her walks.. LOL.
Its good to know that they can recover quickly. I'll be monitoring her very closely.

hello i have both mine done no problems they both are beautiful dogs didnt change them one bit.although i did have roxy done before her first season on vets advice they said it would prevent certain illnesses that could happen in latter life in hindsight i think she was to young and maybe i should have waited until after first season. You will be shocked at how quickly they recover next day i had to crate them to stop them running and jumping its natural to worry but she will be fine.

Hi,

I had Morgan done when she was 9 months old after her first season, My hubby didn't want her to be done at first but we would never breed from her as we just wouldn't have the knowledge etc. When she was in season she was so fed up and really miserable and i couldn't bare to see my baby like that again. So she was done....We have never noticed a different in her charectar or anything she was and still is a great girl. The only thing i did notice is that she tends to put on a little weight.. Just like us ladies LOL now and then if i dont watch her diet. Otherwise great.

Good luck for friday and try not too worry.. I know you will LOL. Let us know how she is xxxxx

Hiya, I had to have Lilly Spade due to a Hernia problem, she was very dopey for a few days, but after that she was soon back to her lovable cheeky self, I think the Op affected me way more than her.  I was lucky because the desicion to Spay was taken out of my hands but like you I would not have bred from her, I am not at home full time and don't think leaving her to it would be fair (and I would have wanted to keep them all too).
Bliss will probably want lots of cuddles when she gets home and after a week at most she will probably have forgotten she even had an Op!  Good luck! Sarah & Lilly xx

Hi, when my old staff was 7 I had to have my german sheperd King put to sleep
I thought Bess was pinning for him then I noticed a discharge so I took her up the vets
and he told me I was lucky I hadn't lost Bess as well she had a womb infection and she
had to have a hysterectomy he said if I had left it one more day she would have died.
When I have another bitch I will have it done asap x x

Loads of us are in the same situation.  I have two staffies, a male and a female and I am still not sure whether to have both done or just one.  Harley is such a softie that I wonder whether there is any need to do it, he is also quite calm.  It will probably be Muffin that gets done due to the health advantages I have heard of.  On a website I read that the only two things that seem to happen to females when done is that they get overweight (good exercise would solve that, if it is true) and they also had problems controlling their wees (this sounds like complete nonsense). Looking at the comments below the best thing is to ger yours done.  Good luck and let us know what you do in the end!! x
