STUPID DOG OWNERS ON MY WALK !!!
Posted On 29/12/2008 23:26:18 by Tamara
Today I took Star up to Moat Park again, this time with her HUGE friend Reggie, who is a Boxer dog, he belongs to my close friend Jenna. There was three of us, myself Jenna and Simon, my other friend.

Our dogs were off the lead, as we have both had them from pups, and have no reason to believe they cannot be trusted with other dogs...

Nearing the end of our walk, after many encounters with other dogs, all friendly ! This dog came along with two men, probably in they're 60's, which was a Airedale Terrier. This dog was off the lead, but seemed friendly enough as it had a smell of Star, then walked off... Metres ahead of this dog - named "Teddy", Star trotting along by my side, Teddy decides to have Part 2 of smelling Star, Star lets him smell her, and I stop to watch whats going on. Then all of a sudden he lunges at her, It all happended so quick, and my first reaction was to grab her by the collar and pull her away, but this little sh't of a dog, was still snapping at her and lunging, I attemped to pick Star up but the way he was on her, I couldn't physically get under her. I must mention, Star did not bite this dog back at all. She just let me pull her away. Which makes the situation even worse. Meanwhile this dog is on her, on her, on her and these two dog owners, the men are just standing there watching - doing nothing !!!!!! Luckily my friend Simon, grabbed Star and scooped him into his arms, while Teddy was still leaping to get to her. Then he decided to go for Reggie who was about a metre away, I heard Reggie growl (now he is a big dog!) And Jenna grabbed him away. This is where finally the man took his dog by its collar, and led it away, saying to be - just once
"Oh i'm really sorry.." And I said "Thats fine" as I checked over Star for any bite marks, surprisingly she had none, but her paw was cut open ? Perhaps were she swipped him away ?

For the rest of the walk she walked with her head down, no longer wanted to say hello to other dogs her height, and didn't respond to my upbeat voice - which she had earlier been jumping around to... It was horrible to see, this dog "Teddy" - not a suitable name - had completly f'cked up our walk because of his aggressive dog.

BRINGING ME TO THE POINT  : WHY do these people have they're dogs off the lead when there is a chance it will be aggressive to other dogs ??!!!!

Also why did they stand there why my dog was attacked by their dog ??

Furthermore if that had been my Star, as a Staffie, lunging at another dog, and cutting them open, I would have probably have had a legal case on my hands or possibly worse.

I am going through a really hard time at the moment as it is, and I really did not need that stress today on top of everything else. I'm also now scared to let her wonder of the lead in case she is attacked and DOES get hurt. I don't know what I'd do :-(

The walk from hell...

So sorry star and reggie were intimidated and attacked by this dislodged mutt!
I hope they will both forget it soon and enjoy their freedom once more.Your quite right if it had been your dog attacking there would be hell to pay, its strange how the staffy isnt the one to start fights tho always the other breed's to go for it first then poor staffy just defends itself or doesnt and gets beaten up! My friend's bull mastiff was attacked viciously by a poodle! of all the breeds! poor Harley was chomped to bits he had to have stitches in his neck and the poodle owner did nothing not even a sorry  People with dangerous dogs are just idiots without a brain.

hi tamara,
            &nb sp;
glad to hear that star is ok,  i also have been out over the fields with my staffy in the fields, and he is a very small little man bless him for a staff, he got attacked 3 times on the same field, in the same day, by a collie who had no obiedience to its owner, and as much as i avoided it it just kept running over the field and lunging at him for no reason. my poor chopper just screamed and rolled until i got a grip of him, but later i found out it has done it to alot of dogs and the owner still wont put a lead or a muzzle on this collie. unfortunatley things like this cant be helped but its the staffys that have the bad rep i dont think so!

hi tamara

it happens and ( most dogs ) will expereince that situation every week, dogs are very versatile and will take knocks like that on the chin and move on! still not nice for you when your trying to have a nice walk. same happened to snoop today he was off his lead and two curly haired terrier things on leads snarled and snaped at him and barking there nuts off at snoop he just walked away ( luckily!)  i was calm and told him to walk on which he obeyed, and a guy walking the other way said " and staffs have got the bad name !"  lol .

carry on enjoying your walks and be positive so that energy feeds off to star!

hope you feel less stressed after reading everyones feedback

later skater and happy new yr if i dont get to spk to you before!

Hello,
I have just replied to this on the forum section.

Really sorry about your bad experience.  Star was such a good girl by not biting back, though if she had it would have self defence!

Star will get over it very soon but it is important that you continue to solicialise your girl.

Chin up mate x

hello when something like this happens it is very important to get you dog out and socialising again with other dogs so that it doesnt get fear aggresive it wasnt your fault so dont keep your dog away from there nice walks (some people do) also you can be proud of your dog for not reacting.Hopefully the paw isnt to bad keep an eye on it and bath with salt water regularly to keep clean.

Hi Tamara, I feel so sorry for Star. I hope she will not keep in memory this really bad experience of agression and will continue to consider walks like a real pleasure. The attitude of the owners of Teddy is quite surprising when we know they are adults. I guess they were surprised themselves and didn't know how to manage the situation. I suggest you keep walking her and let her meet nice dogs, so she can be self-confident when you are around with her. Big hugs to Star. Take care, Ralph
