Rude people
Posted On 02/02/2009 01:14:01 by Daedre
I decided to go to the beach yesterday Bell loves the beach.  We all had a great day untill we were leaving, we walked passed this man with his dog  Bell was off lead because we never use a lead with her.  Then this rude man said to me that Bell should be on her lead well he actually called her IT.  I said "what" then he said well IT is a Pitbull Terrier, well I wasn't happy I said "first she isn't called IT and mind your own bloody business.   It really makes me angry small minded people that have no idea.  It took me a few hours to stop stewing about it.  What is it his business to tell me to put Bell on a lead she wouldn't be off lead if I couldn't trust her, she listens to everyting I tell her and she knows the rules when we go out.  Might I add that the beach was a off lead beach.  Anyway that's my grumble!

That is so bad. Her children will be exactly the same as her towards our beautiful Staffords, it's such a shame.

Yeah I have learned to shrug it off, but you do get the nice comments too. Unfortunately my older dog (3) does have aggression to dogs so if he is growling and lunging he doesn't help the image and I suppose comments are fair enough, but when trotting along nicely on lead next to me, with my kids, its out of order. They wouldn't dare say anything if it was a tough guy no matter how his dog ws behaving. So -stupid and cowardly.

Daedre thanks for asking, my younger dog is 4m and I really hope she does me proud like yours has. I am putting a lot of work into making sure she is well trained and socialised.

Unfortunately you are bound to come across the odd ignorant person.
I don't get it very often, but when it happens it hurts, especially when
your dog was behaving so well. These comments sometimes follow
when THEIR pampered pooch has tried to attack ours!
Its just a pity these people believe all the rubbish they print in the
media in stead of basing their opinions on the behaviour of the dog they
are aiming their statements at.

Typical ignorant.......and coward. My dog looks like a typical "tough guy" dog. The nicest comment I've had is awwww, he looks just like a frog. The worst you can imagine- mother grabbing thier kids (from across the street)-that dog is nasty they shouldn't be allowed, etc. Even in puppy class with my bitch she is so good but she is called "the Staffy"- all the other puppys get their names, not "the Pom" or "the Shar-pei" or whatever. One day I hope she is as well trained as yours and can go off lead and it will be "stuff you" or something like that to anyone who has comments.

My god she grabbed her kids....what message is that sending to her children.  Thank you for your nice comments on Bell, it took me a while to get her to the point where she could be off lead.  Bell was off lead at 11 or 12 months, I'm so proud of her.  How old is your gogeous Stafford?

It really is a sad reflection of the ignorant, misguided, press-hyped world we live in!

I had some daft bat shout "bloody stupid owners" the other day when my puppy Skye dared to walk in front of her jogging in the park! Umm... let's just say I wasn't so reserved in my response... and if it wasn't so crowded I'd have run after her!!!

We've been so lucky with ppl not commenting on Skye being a Staffy in a bad way - in fact, we've had lots and lots of ppl saying how much they love Staffies and how great they are. I'm always so saddened to hear of the opposite. And I too worry that we'll get that with Skye as she gets older, and bigger... ahhhhh bring it on! I'm right in the mood for a face off with someone ... lol

Well it sounds like you have got it all worked out, good on you!  I'm glad you have had lots of possitive comments, as i have too.

That will interesting to see how things go as she gets older.  It drives me crazy after all this time that alot of people have no idea about the Stafford, but I guess we seem to take more notice of the people that don't know only because it so noticable.  The people that we meet and they greet our Staffords is normal!!!!
