Well done Lilia
Posted On 16/03/2009 22:00:13 by tractorgirl
Well we have just completed our good manners clicker training course. Anyone who knows us will know Lilia has always been over excited around people/dogs and easily distracted that together with my inability to exert any discipline on her was a nightmare. Tonight she done me proud! We did circuit training (different exercises we have learnt over the last few months) then two dogs at a time had to sit and wait whilst we put a trail of food down and then loose lead walk around cones followed by a wait and recall. I was dreading our turn but Lilia was fab. She did them all 100% and the recall was the thing i was dreading most. I sat her down and walked to the end of the hall and called her she passed two other dogs and came straight to me. We received a huge cheer from the class as they all know how distracted she has been. I was so proud of her she did everything i asked of her tonight. She is just turned 18 months and at long last i am getting somewhere with her due to a change of diet, training and regular walks with Pam (Pammy 1974), Ruby & Scooby. I can now walk her through a busy town with other people and dogs and she doesnt want to say hello to everyone. The trainer said to me tonight that she could not believe what a different dog she was turning into and how impressed she was with her - I am so proud of my little girl tonight and it just goes to show if at first you dont suceed, try, try, try again. Well done Bubba you made me feel very proud tonight

Just fabulous. Keep the good job you're doing with Lilia, a trained dog is so much more comfortable to live for yourself and for others. And staffys are so smart that they learn easier and faster. Congrats' Ralph

Well done Lilia you have made us all proud not just your mummy, but also a massive well done to you Di, you have kept going with her.  would you mind taking my two they are still as crazy as every, mind bullit is alot more calmer than he used to be and i think this is because he has reached 2 years old, i have been told most stop jumping up at you at this age, he still gets exciting but tends to give a little uff, uff and wag his tail while arching his back, where as luna is still jumping up and trying to grab at your hand or sleeve to hold on.
Hi Debi Thanks! Its been a long struggle !! Lilia is 18 months old now and only just managed to focus on me more than other distractions. I think its a mixture of diet, walking with Pam and training as i said. Plus me being in the right frame of mind to train her. Lilia doesnt jump up too much these days I am still practising making her sit if someone goes all scared and silly around her! Luna does exactly what Lilia used to do she used to dive up and hold your arm/sleeve in her mouth and not let go - even though it wasnt viscious it used to hurt like hell and she would not let go for love nor money it was so embarrassing being 'savaged' by your own dog. Lilia is still as mad as a hatter but now i have a little more control over her than before and i am really pushing my luck we are off to advance classes next week! Hope you are all well. xxxx

YEAH BUBBA!!!!!!!!!! YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CONGRATULATIONS DI ! you've a wonderful girl!!!!!

LOL i went with the attitude i WAS NOT going to be the class clown anymore and we werent! There was a 10 month old Weinerama (think thats how you spell it) who was useless only because his owner was calling him but not giving him any instructions. I noticed that a few weeks ago and it was a good reminder to me to always call Lilia to get her attention then give a command. I am so proud of Lilia i have been grinning all day. No doubt she will let me down tonight but hey we told her she had to behave for one night and she did.  We are off to the advanced class now which starts on Monday which is supposed to be good fun and more learning. Hope Dukey is ok xxx

How excellent well done, I wish there was something like that near me.
Thanks its been a long slog to get anywhere with Lilia. As a pup she was so distracted and the trainers couldnt do anything with her so they sort of gave up and she treated it like playgroup! Then i booked her into another session and she came into season the day before. So I ended up with a 12 month old uncontrollable dog. I was recommended this trainer by a friend. She was great she came to see Lilia at home and saw how she was and understood she was very excitable. In the class she would show us how to do things we all had a couple of attempts. Half the time Lilia wouldnt do anything but instead of being negative Helen told us to go home and practise. There was only 7 of us in the class so she would come round to each of us and show us what we were doing wrong. It was great. I am very lucky to have found her and look forward to continuing my training with a slighter calmer and more obedient dog. I only wish i had gone to her when Lilia was a pup.
