My Dad
Posted On 12/05/2009 20:59:07 by tractorgirl
This isnt really a blog just a way to let my friends on here know how Dad got on with his op. He arrived at the hospital to be told he hadnt had a pre-med and they wouldnt operate (Me and mum couldnt understand why he hadnt had one but you dont tell the experts their job). He  kicked up! Hes been so worked up about it so they decided to do the pre med then. His blood pressure was up (hardly suprising as he suffers with high blood pressure without making him even more uptight about not having the op). They bought in a cardio doctor and decided to do his op. They took out more than they had intended to not because it was anything untoward just to try to prevent any future problems. He came out of the anaesthetic really well and the doctors were impressed with him as he is nearly 70! Today he was really upbeat and i think he actually 'enjoyed' his time at the hospital. He was in a waiting room with several other men from 20 yrs old up and he said to them 'we arent in a dentist surgery - lets all chat and kill time!' I think they all reassured one another. Hes never short of a word or two bless him. When he got home Mum found he had the cardio pads on still. He has been out walking today and sounded really good when i spoke to him this lunchtime. Thanks for your support - you know who you are xxx

Hi Di - just wanted to say that I am really glad your Dad is ok.  It must be a huge weight off your mind. We'll always be Daddy's girls regardless of our age won't we so when they they're not well it's really worrying.  I'll bet Lilia will be glad to have him back too - from what I've read she loves him as much as Lola loves her Grandad   x x
Thanks Lisa. I have missed our walks with Dad and Lilia hopefully we will start again soon! Yes I am a bit of a daddys girl but id never admit to it!! and yes Lilia does adore him cos hes always cuddling her.xx

Hi Di.

The pre med is a drug given just before the op to relax the patient and the pre medical assessment of blood tests and blood pressure reading usually takes place a couple of weeks before.

Glad your dad is ok and in good spirits. Can you remind me what he's had done as I'm having another blonde moment!!!

He seems to be a tough cookie and I'm sure he will continue to recover well.

Look after yourself.

Kaz

Aww Di that is good news that the op went ok and your dad is making such good progress, and cheering the others up in the process.
Dont mean to sound ignorant, but I was always under the assumption they gave you the pre med in hospital just prior to your operation to relax you - so who was supposed to give him his pre med?
I bet your mum is relieved its all gone so well to. I hope he continues to make good progress, and dosent go overdoing it in his recovery.
Love to all of you xxx
Hi Lynne i think im right in saying when you are older they need to know your blood pressure, etc is ok before they consider an op. Im not sure but they werent going to do dads op until he made a fuss. Havent spoken to mum yet but im sure she is relieved our main priority is for dad to be dad again. I dont think he will overdue it he realises what he can and cant do now. Thanks for your support xx

Hi Di! Great that you dad finally has his op over with and all went well. I'm sure your mum's glad it actually took place - Bless her! He'll not like it over the next few days when he has to take it easy and NOT work or lift anything too heavy. You must take after your dad in making other people feel at ease - what's he like - this isn't the dentist surgery - he's a scream! he sounds a lovely man. Wishing him a speedy and good recovery and cuddles to lilia. x  x x
Thanks Jen its  huge relief all round. We are all glad it took place, I think now its over he will be happy to sit back for a while *(he has been working a bit over the last few weeks and i think he realises he can do a bit now). He is a lovely man who will talk to anyone anytime and for hours on end lol. Thanks for your kind words they are much appreciate xx
