Was out with Kai this morning, not my usual time as i was off work today, then we suddenly saw the dog that attacked her in September, luckily it was behind a fence in a different bit of the park. When Kai saw it, she started backing away, she slipped her collar, How I dont know as she has never done this before. I quicklly got it back on her and walked her fast in the other direction. I saw the guy who owned it putting a lead on it, and making a quick exit.
We went back to the park later and she was very wary, I think she thinks it might fly out at her again, like it did when it attacked her. Dogs owner is an idiot, did not even try to stop his dog before when it had my Kai by the neck.
Does anyone know what is the right thing to do in these circumstances, should I walk off, or is that showing the dog that there is a problem and it might attack again.

We had a shar-pei who had a go at Roco when he was a pup, everytime we walked past this garden again he would try and cross the street, i never let him as i feel he shouldn't be scared of this dog. He eventually stopped trying to cross the street and would walk by with a look on his face "I'm getting walked and your in the garden, na na naaa naaaa" type of look. Its Roco's arch nemesis now as they bark at each other, don't know if its to say Hi or they want to have a go with each other.

Maybe i didn't do the right thing and somebody with more experience might tell you otherwise but it worked for me.

Famous Quotes about Dogs:-
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion"

I can really sympathise hun-Amber was attacked in the summer and now when we go on the field where she was attacked and she sees a dog in the distance she is very wary. She also does not like dogs lunging towards her and is very aggressive back to dogs which do this. I am just hoping that with time she will forget the experience. I really feel sorry for Kai-such a horrible experience for her and you. I feel personally in my gut that if I saw the dog whcih attacked Amber again-I would walk away in the opposite direction. Its not worth distressing her further by having an aggressive dog in her vicinity. Sending her lots of love-poor baby. xxx

Unless there is obvious danger from the other dog, such as it's off lead, then keep going to the park. Dogs can move on if we humans let them by not living in the past, worrying about it and being concerned about what could happen. All of which I acknowledge is easier for me to type than to carry out.

If she is showing any fear or uncertainty, keep moving forward and remain in the old Calm Assertive state. Don't give any fuss to the dog when it's not in a balanced state (no matter how much you want to tell her that everything will be all right, dogs can't process that information and just take it as confirmation their fear is the behaviour you want them to do). Let her be led by your calm energy and they will unlock from the fear, and move on.

This will only work if you can keep the bad experience out of your mind so Kai can feed of your calm energy. If you need to go there on your own as a dress rehearsal of sorts - do it. It may help you to picture walking her in a calm state without the pressure of her being there. Remember that calm feeling and bring it with you when you walk Kai.

All of this sounds like what mitch_stu mentions doing in their post and it worked for their dog.

Thanks very much for your advise. I was the dog again in the street the other day, I just walked on ignored it and its daft owner, and Kai just did the same. So it deffinately seemed to work and she did not seem to be worried at all.
