Puppy or adult dry food

I have been given conflicting advice from a vet and  a dog trainer. One says dry puppy food (kibble) the other says there is too much proteinn for a pup and causes hyperactivity! Is anyone using dry adult food for a 15 week old pup who does seem hyper after food? Being a new dog owner for the first time any advice appreciated.

Hi Mike, I can only go on my own dog who is now 7 month old. I feed JWB puppy, I did try to feed the puppy junior which is bigger kibble, but he gobbled it so quickly it made him sick! So for his sake I went back to the puppy (the small kibble), also for my own, as I didn't want to be cleaning sick up after each meal. I will just play it by ear and keep him on the small stuff for as long as it takes! Trying the puppy junior now and again by mixing a little into his small kibble and keeping an eye on him. You will probably get the experts advice which could well differ from mine, but I'm just playing everything by ear as we go along! lol

30% to 42% protien is ideal for very acitve adults.

When they get to 11 months old then slowly introduce the adult food.

Just watch his/her activity level and adjust it accordingly.

I agree with not feeding a puppy adult food Maganja, but 30% to 42% protein for an adult dog is far too high, and can cause a lot of behaviour problems in dogs.

If you want to feed dry food, Burgess Supa Feeds do a good puppy food.   I fed http://www.burgesspetcare.co.uk/dogs/index.php?page=supadog_early_days&expand=wellbeing to a very underweight rescue Saluki Lurcher pup and she thrived on it.  She didn't get over the top and put weight on gradually.

Working dogs need more protien than non workers.  Pups need more protien because protien helps bones and muscles grow, it generally called the building blocks.
