you feed and water them, take them out for long walks, shower them with toys, love and affection...but the minute you dare to get some lunch, they look at you like you are the cruellest owner in the world, or they are a poor little starving abandoned dog who is in need of a good meal... so much so that you end up giving them your lunch because you cant stand the look in their eyes.

gah i hate guilt trips

Yup - Lola has that down to a tee.  My Mum and Dad have even asked me in the past if I have fed her because she gave them 'the look'  x x

A guilt trip is bad enough but it gets worse!! On Saturday I had £20 to my name. I needed dog food and some other stuff so I went to asda. Now by time I'd left the dog isle in asda I had £15 worth of dog stuff, I'm talking blankets, bones, toys, tinned food, dry food you name it. I went and got meself some muffins for breakfast. I got back and fed the dog then when I turned my back for one second Laika had ate my bloody muffins. So by this time I've got £3 left. I walked about a mile to the nearest cafe that was open, starving, and ordered a butty. I walked back with it and when I got home my mate knocked and by time I'd answered... you've guessed it, she'd ate my f*cking sandwich as well! So there's me drastically STARVING at 11 am on a saturday morning with no money, no food - infact NOTHING excpet bloody dog toys!

LOL, i know this look. After a minute Leo figures he isnt getting any and sits at my feet sulking.

If he does watch me eat, I try to teach him to look away from me as i bring the fork up to my lips (Telling him no and directing his head in the other direction) but so far no good LOL But I have seen a dog be taught this! Leo is so food driven though, i dont think the 'look away trick' will ever fully catch on, he trys bless him.

Sometimes he sits so he can see just from the corner of eye, haha, (I think so i cant re-direct his head in the other direction) I still know his watching though!

Hell yes!!! I know exactly what you are talking about.

My nearly 12 week old male pup has started doing that to me even though he hasnt even tasted our food yet. He has started leaving his meal of dog biscuits cooked chicken breast shredded & raw beef to hang around wanting what we have. I'm staying put though as my other stafford is fussy as and I dont want to go down that road with our new boy!!

Lottie the 5 yr old snorts something terrible, just to let us know she is still there and please do not forget to save something for her!!

I hardly give my own food to my dogs, my husband always give them little bit if he's eating toast or something.

.....then dogs know who to ask, they hover around him every time he goes to kitchen...

they know differences " meal time" and "snack". at meal time they go and lay in their bed, but if we got some snack , ( pork pies, biscuits, sweets, etc) they give us THAT look. ( ...still they won't get them off me...)
