Has anyone else being having issue in australia with the current heatwave? I made sure before going to work that he had several buckets of water strategically placed around the yard and in the shade, but arrived home to a very heat exhausted dog.  Poor little fella was struggling big time, he was all delirious and disoriented.  I hosed him down imediately and brought him inside under the aircon.

He hadn't touched any of the water i had left for him so i coaxed him into drinking a bit of water and did so for the next few hours.  He slowly got a bit more lively but i was really worried.

Today he is at mum and dads inside in the airconditioning.

Has anyone else had any issues?

I've heard some owner leave wet towel on the floor to let them lay when its hot. I've tried last year and they loved it

You are definitely doing the right thing having him inside with air conditioning-whether there are buckets of water around or even shade-your dog is still out in the intense heat and although you took all precautions-you are very lucky he wasnt more poorly than he was-a dog with heatstroke will get past wanting to drink -he will be so exhausted.
I would never-even in the UK-leave a dog outside for any longer than an hour in the summer. Glad hes recovered-must have been a shock for you.

Im also having to deal with the Aussie summer.
if its really warm I bring my dogs inside, but usually I go outside every half hour and hose them down as well as wetting the concrete area we have so they have a cool place to lay down.I also got them one of those clam kiddie pools, they like to jump in everytime they go for a drink
glad your dog is ok

I heard you need to give dogs sodium tablets in heat like that. Maybe talk to your vet about it.

Me too, dealing with the Australian summer. If i know its going to be an extremly got day I leave Leo inside. My OH works all around sydney (being a carpenter) so on the days he is not inside my OH pops home 2-4 times (depending on what job he is at and what suburb he is going to next) to check on him, make sure he takes a drink and put a wet towel in his bed.

You can also get cooling vest/blankets (Check out http://www.silvereagleoutfitters.com.au/animals.htm ) Just found them a few days ago on the net, think i will order Leo a blanket and vest

sorry i haven't heard of it,

I saw the news of the Oz's heat wave yesterday ( or day before that). Naturally people goes to sea side to cool it down a bit but at beach more chance of sun stroke??

goodness me, hope you guys and beloved pets are alright.
