Baby dies after 'dog attack'
A baby boy has died after apparently being mauled by two family dogs, police said. Skip related content Related photos / videos Baby dies after 'dog attack' Officers were called to the home of the three-and-a-half-month-old in Ystrad Mynach, South Wales, shortly after midnight. The baby was taken to the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil where he was pronounced dead. A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: "Although the exact cause of death has yet to be established, and a post-mortem is taking place this afternoon, it is believed the fatal injuries were caused by the family dogs - a Staffordshire bull terrier and a Jack Russell. "The dogs have been removed from the property and are currently being held at a local vet's." The spokeswoman said the baby was being looked after by a "family member" at the time of the incident and they were taken to hospital for treatment for shock afterwards. No arrests have been made. Chief Inspector Jim Baker said: "This is a tragic incident for the family and the community. "Gwent Police Family Liaison Officers are currently supporting and assisting the family through this difficult time. The family wish to be left alone to grieve." He added: "Although the exact circumstances of the baby's death are yet to be established, we would like to reiterate the advice given to dog owners that dogs should never be left unsupervised with young children at any time." |

the common denominator with the recent few of these attacks is that the children were all at the grandmothers house. So obviously the dogs have been used to having free run of the house and all of a sudden theres a new threat to the territory....dogs just run on instinct when there is no-one to tell them different. And it looks to me as though these dogs had formed a pack and this new addition was seen as a weakness which had to be removed. (just my opinion and in no way shape or form is the above to be taken as the views of Staffyclub.com) My condolences go out to the parents. I can't imagine what they must be going through right now |

I noticed the same thing philzee. There's definately a link. Unfortunately no one else will be bothered by this, and will also ignore that a Jack Russell was involved.
I'm getting increasingly worried about how this is going to fuel the fire further for negative staffie media, and what the consequences of this will be. |

It is terribel. but something that could have been prevented. This morning I got some dirty looks while I was walking her, why are [people so narrow minded) People kill others, but we do not go round giving dirty looks to every human we meet

A very sad story, that shouldnt have happened. But fortunatly not put my Mum and Dad off getting our puppy staffy in the next few weeks. Although they have been told they are mad by family friendsafter hearing this story, and the way the staffy breed is portrayed in the media. As it has been said, people will forget that the jack russell was involved unfortunatly it will never be clear what happened and which dog sadly attacked the baby. But yes at the end of the day, the baby should never have been left alone especially when the dogs would not have been used to having a baby around. Very sad.

Well what a sad story "again" and yet again 2 family pets have paid the price with their lives and also the terrible and awful ending to such a young life,i really dont understand why people are not learning that their pet no matter how sweet can turn into a monster when children/babies are involved,i have 3 children growing up around my dogs but have "NEVER" left them alone together,i also feel so very sorry that this grandmother has paid the biggest price for a mistake and not only have the memory of the terrible thing she saw,the guilt and also the loss of her pets,it is such a shame this keeps happening and yet again the fingers will be pointing straight at the staff which is just going to add fuel to the fire of those saying such awful things about our lovely breed. |

I heard this on the radio yesterday and was praying that it wasn't a staffy involved but of course it is, and as others have said above it will be forgotten that the JRT was involved and as ever our dogs are demonized. Obviously I am sorry for the family's loss and it is terrible that a young baby has died but I will never understand how people can be so stupid as to leave a baby or child of any age alone with dogs, whatever the breed. They are DOGS ffs, they don't know any better.

I saw this on the news yesterday and as they were telling the tragic story I was praying to myself that they wouldn't mention staffies......but they did...... I was so angry. Why would this stupid woman leave a BABY! alone with two dogs?!! I don't have any kids but I am sensible enough to know that you should never leave your kids alone with ANY animals!! I am absolutely fed up with the whole situation. Every day I get people on the streets and in the park crossing the road trying to avoid me with my two staffies. This sort of news is now doing any favours to an already punished breed. If that woman hadn't left that baby alone with the dogs these unnecessary deaths wouldn't have happened! and is she going to be funished???!! I am sure she is not. I am sorry for the death of the poor angel baby but believe me I am as sad that the two dogs were put down

just read this in the paper, not sure of the full details, doubt if anyone really knows tbh. no point in starting saying whos to blame a poor kid is dead and the staffy will get the blame{rightly or not i dont know} all the blame is on the sbt in the story i read and the jrt gets a small mention.
