As you most prob know by now I have taken zeego in a 3 year old male staffy. My problem is he walks fine off lead unless we see other dogs his hair and tale goes up and he runs up to them he sizez them up but his tail is wagging held quite high and only a little bit side to side but quite fast. If they do a bunny hop or anything like that he will start playing. My problem is he will run up to dogs that are SO far away and by the time I get up to him i'm always in a huff and my other issue is I hate it when strange dogs run up to me and gracie (she used to have quite serious D.A and I know this can set them back) and if zeego was to have an encounter with a dog like this it would be my fault because he was the dog running up to them the other thing is if he gets into a fight I wont be there to seperate it.
also just to mention he is due to be neutered on the 1st of july because he always tries to lick the females privates and mount them. He even mounts males but not sure if this is a dominant thing |

I think you are going to have to go back to basics and really drum in his recall. Get a line and start rewarding him for returning to you.
The issue you could have one day is if he were to run over to an on lead DA dog...recall is by far the most important part of training in my opinion as you need to be able to recall you dogs from any situation. Also taking him to training classes and getting him mixed with other dogs may help - as he won't be so intent in running off and meeting dogs whilst on your walk as he will be socialised. x |

Yeah I think he likes meeting dogs but like I said if he runs up to a dog that has d.a then it could turn ugly as I may not be able to run over in time etc. Also, if he likes meeting dogs why does he do it in a dominant manor i.e. hairs up tail heald high etc??

Yes i would be careful letting him do this, if he did it with my girl she would try to attack him, as she herself was attacked and thinks every dog that runs up to her is gonna attack her. I would keep him on a line just to be sure, as you dont want him going like mine if he got attacked.

Exactly my point, if he ran into gracie like that she would attack him too. I'm worried, it also makes me quite angry.

So if he just wants to play etc why does his hair go up and his tail go quite stiff? |

sbts often like other dogs and will play, but the problem comes when the other dog doesent want to play! if another dog goes at him depending on his age while his tail and fur are up you could well be in the middle of a nasty situation! worse than that he he were attacked by another dog he may well end up da. its a bit of a catch 22 you want your dog being social with other dogs but on the other hand sbts have fighting in there blood, some are fine some not, there no real fix, i only let mine play with other dogs when he either knows them or im 100% the other dog is going to be fine. at 3 hes about the age where a scrap isnt out of the question, sometimes you have to accept a staffy is a staffy and act accordingly.

Well you know what us men are like! I'm glad you replied mattie as you often give good pointers regarding staffy behaviour. What should I do to show Zeego that he doesn't need to fear other dogs?

Yeah exactly. I have came along way with Gracie also but she is still very unsure of new dogs and has some of the same issues except her tail doesn't wag it often goes dead straight and sometimes goes so high up it starts curling towards her back, her hairs stang up and her ears go up and she shows the whites of her eyes. this is when I have to "snap her out of it" or stop the situation for escalating in any way. If you could give me some advice on Gracie also it would help.
