i just felt i needed a rant really..after much deliberation ive decided not to breed Star, so have been looking to buy another puppy...i live in portsmouth and have been looking on the internet for a local breeder...i found a 2 litters of KC reg pups , and by the time i had phoned to show interest they had all been sold :o( so out of curiosity i started to look at local ads in papers/shop windows etc..and bumped into an old friend who is in the know where animals are concerned..i mentioned that im looking for another puppy, and i was shocked by her reply :- DO NOT BUY A STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER FROM PORTSMOUTH OR SURROUNDING AREAS BECAUSE THEY ARE MOSTLY INBRED...she said the demand was so high in our area that back street breeders were doing anything to make money..silly little yobs trying to make a quick £250 for each puppy..and half the time u dont get to see the parents either...
I was shocked..and very annoyed..when walking Star the next day..i opened my eyes...and everywhere i looked there was a teenybopper yob with a staffy....HOW WRONG |

there is nothing wrong with inbreeding dogs in and of itself. it will only concentrate characteristics found in that blood, good or bad. every breed of dog was created with some form of inbreeding. have you tried any of your local rescues to find a dog?

i agree that all staffie's should be bred to the best quality and health, all three of my staffies have the odd one or two dogs show up in their pedigree more than once, i do however think your being slightly unfair by assuming the people who are doing this are " silly little yobs " and " teenyboppers " , i'm still in my teens and my partner is 21, we have three staffies and they mean alot to us. A back street breeder doesn't have to be young , it's sad to say but there is men and women of all ages breeding dogs for all the wrong reasons.I know there are young people who get hold of dogs like this and use them for all the wrong reasons, but i don't think it's fair to point the finger at only younger people.

im not saying that back street breeders are young yobs...i live in quite a rough area..and here the back street breeders are breeding like mad to supply the yobs here..everywhere i look there is a drug dealer...or some mouthy little squirt with a staffy...like a status symbol..its wrong..the problem here is that the dogs are being over bred and problems are occuring in the breed here..i have an elderly neighbour who owns an absolutely gorgeous stafford...and yes there are some young people here that have staffords and love them to bits...so im sorry if u thought i was pointing the finger at young people..cos im not...actually the back street breeders here are mainly middle aged idiots looking for quick money and their ignorance is doing damage !!

yes i can definately agree, it's sad to know that idiots like this are purposely using their dogs as a part of self image and not taking the dogs health or wellbeing into consideration. It's also people like this who use there dogs as a weapon that make people think wrongly of the staffie |
