Blood in the poo hun is normally a sign of inflammation of the gut-something has irritated him and the food is rushing through his system and causing some irritation. You do have to be very careful of certain plants in the garden as they are poisonous to dogs. He could just have nibbled something that has uopset his tummy. With him being so small I would give him two or three small meals today of either chicken and rice/pasta or some scrambled egg. You can also give him a little probiotic yoghurt as this may help to balabce his system a little again. If he is no betterv tomorrow or you are particularly worried I would take him to the vet-he may need some anti-inflammatories or anti biotics just to settle things down. Also the tuna may be better for him when hes a little older. what do you give it to him in-is it brine or oil. You also have to watch for the levels of mercury in tuna-I give my dogs either pilchards or sardines in sunflower oil which will probably be better for your pup when hes a little older. Hope hes ok-poor little boy. xx
ps bear in mind he could also be alergic to chicken-is this the first time hes had chicken. Amber can only eat a tiny portion of chicken and then she vomits so if you think it could be the chicken-give him the scrambled egg instead. x

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I gave him tuna in sunflower oil but washed most of the oil off before I gave him it. Is scambled egg ok for him with him been only 8 weeks? I'm going to see how he is today and if he's no better by tomorrow I'm going to take him straight to vet. He's my baby and don't like to see him unwell. I've only had him nearly 3 weeks and already couldn't bear anything happening to him |

You've had him for nearly 3 weeks and he's only 8 weeks old? Far to young to have left his litter and far too young to be introducing such a variety of foods. At such a tender age his little body is still adapting to solid foods in general. Tuna is extremely rich and if fish is given it should only be white fish. I buy the frozen whitefish fillets from Icelands and steam it before adding it to the food. I also mix in boiled brown rice and raw lamb or chicken mince to a good quality dry food. For their skin and coat I give 1 capsule per day (1200 mg) of flaxseed oil as this is utilised far easier by their body than any other type of oil. I usually start introducing these foods to their dry at about 10 weeks and give at least 1 week to adapt to each before adding another. I would give him some boiled rice with a bit of boiled chicken breast with a tablespoon of the probiotic yoghurt for his meals over the next 24 hours then introduce him back to a basic meal after that with the 1st day back on regular meals being given in 5 or 6 small meals throughout that day instead of the 3 bigger meals per day he should be on. Then on to regular 3x per day. If after this he still shows signs of intestinal upset have him looked at by a vet. If during this time he shows signs of lethargy, lack of interest in food or water or vomiting have him in immediately.

Panic over, I took him to the vet this morning along with a sample of his poo and they checked him over and said it was just down to a change of diet. They advised that a puppy should not be given any kind of chicken or tune until he is 6 months and that he should just be given dry food for a week to help thicken his poo. I am so relieved that everything is ok ![]() ![]()
