Dog Toys
Posted On: 09/07/2008 20:12:35
Hi Everyone...

This is just to let people know that some toys can be dangerous!!!!

My next door neighbour who owns a king charles had a rope toy when she was a pup,
and she use to shred it and she never realized that she had swallowed some of it..
well the pup became seriously ill and she had to have an operation which resorted in her loosing part of her intestine because the rope had tangled itself round it...
The dog was fine after...and she now is 12 years old.
I was shocked when she told me this because you wouldnt think a rope toy could cause so much damage, and it would just be passed naturally, not get all tangled up

hi pam,
thanks for alerting us, i personally have never given them to skye as i remember reading something in a book before we got her, that they can swallow pieces and sometimes the only way they can be removed is surgically, scary isn't it glad to hear that your neighbours dog made a full recovery.

hi pam, well yeah i agree some of the toys produced can be so dangerous, in the last month my 3 staffs have demolished about 6/7 toys and ive just stopped buying tuggers withe tennis balls attached cus between the 3 of them they are in bits in about half an hour.i also gave the puppies some soft toys to play with and similar thing happened with the pups because not being to graphic when i cleaned up the doggie doo's there was shreds of rope and material in it so sadly for the pups they went in the bin,my friend lost his dog at xmas due to the toys he'd bought his dog and sadly his dog died on the operating table and he was devestated and wrote an article in the dudley news and the dudley chronicle making others aware of what he'd gone through so years on these toys are still no good.thanks pam for making us more aware of this problem.

I also assumed anything like that would pass through. Bettie can shred just about anything. The last Kong Wubble thing only lasted 90min. A friend uses them for his Schnousers and they last two of them 6 months.

Thanks for the warning a closer eye is definately needed.

Hi Pam, thanks for the warning, I'll be keeping a watchfull eye on mine when they are playing with rope toys. If it saves just one accident these warnings are worth it
