I feel sick!
Posted On: 28/06/2008 08:13:03
Hi All, I took Lilia out for a walk this morning before coming to work. We live in a quiet village but there is one road through it to the nearest town. I walk a little way along this busy (for us!) road with Lilia then cut up a lane. When i got home and took Lilia's harness off i found that somewhen she had chewed through one of the straps and it was hanging on by one piece of strong cotton. I didnt know she had chewed it and i didnt see her do it. What really scared me was there was quite a few cars around this morning and if she had pulled she could have been knocked over - i felt really sick - i dont know what i would have done if this happened. I cant imagine my life without her now. I suppose i'm writing this blog just to say to everyone that uses a harness please check it carefully before putting it on your dog. The only consolation to this is she must be better on her lead and not pulling anymore.

Hi Di- That is quite worrying but the good thing is you got her home safe and aware of the problem now. We had a similar thing this morning where Amber chewed through Jasmine lead and it just snapped and Jasmine legged it -luckily we were on a field but I had to tie the pieces together and then get her home hoping that it wouldnt snap again-and this was across some busy roads. Also about 4 years ago my daughter Kerry took Max out on an extending lead and that snapped on a main road and Max was hit by a bus-luckily he was right outside the vets-who heard the bang and came out straight away-he was concussed and spent the night under observation at the vets but now I never use those-too thin and no control if they snap.
Hope yopur feeling ok now hun-will speak to you soon. xxx

Morning,

I bet you felt sick, i would have too. Thank god she didn't pull and break it. Marley had done that with his lead and i only took my eyes off him for 2 secs and he had nearlly chewed all the way through.

Glad all was ok and you saw it before the next walk.

Hope your well i have been busy so just coming on to catch up xxxx

Just goes to show Di we just can't get to complacent. We must always check our collars, harness's and leads to make sure they are in tip top condition. You were very lucky this morning Di, bet a visit to the pet store is high on your list today. Lilia must be really good on the lead now. Tobys collar snapped once but luckily we were on the beach, then it went again when we were in the pet shop! So I know how sick you feel.
You're right Lynne, a new harness is a priority - i just dont know when she done it. Lilia is generally really good on her lead but she has the odd moments - luckily not this morning though. I will definitely check her lead and harness each time from now on. Big hugs to Toby xx
