Eating snails very expensive hobby
Posted On: 14/07/2008 21:09:23
After reading Kevins (Golfpag) blog about lungworm i was very concerned as Lilia chomps on snails for a pastime. As she was due to be wormed i went to the vets today and asked them for some tablets bearing in mind the usual worm tablets are about £2 i was stunned when they gave me three lots of 'spot on' treatment and it cost £21! Although nothing is too much for my little girl it looks like i might be surfing the net for these in future. It just seems a huge jump in cost but at least my little girl will be safe now. Thanks Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

I think that is daylight robbery! Vets dont always do the right thing by our pets, flea collars and spot on treatments in my books are poison, garlic and ginger in there food works as a natural repellent, see my diets for amounts, i still worm my dogs every 3 months but only use tablets, they work then there gone, not like spot on's that sit on there skin 24/7.

I prefer tablet and i buy the big dog ones and break them in half, it cheaper this way.

I dont use spot on treatment, the chemicals in them are too much for our dogs, it tells you to not get it on your skin, and if you do wash off. So why put that one our dogs.

Take them back and get your money back, buy some large tablets and get more for your money.

It is a lot of money but as you say she is worth it!  Worth looking for the tablets else where, I am sure you will find them cheaper! Let us know if you do! x

When I had Bess I used to get her worming tablets from the
local pet shop and my cats worming tablets, but I found that
one of my cats Simba was getting worms a month or so after
they had been wormed. Some one told me to get Drontal Tablets
from the vets and since then I haven't had no trouble with any of
my pets. When I had Scrappy Dean (who I had him off) was using
drontal liquid for the pups so I carried on with the liquid until he was
old enough to have the tablets. I will only give my pets the worming
tablets from the vets now x x

Hi Debs, sounds like you are using the same sort of stuff. Clicker training is going really well thanks. No more pulling on the lead and her recall is really good (most of the time) she even surprises me! Hows Shadow doing now?

Whats the spot on? and why is it so expensive..does it treat more stuff than the tablets..
Bet that was abit of a shock when you only normally pay £2 a tablet..
Hi Pam its called Advocate it treats mixed parasitic infections, various worns, ear lice, etc. I know it seems a lot of money but its an all in one that comes in a pipette that you put on your dogs neck. They gave me a leaflet about lungworm and as lilia is partial to a snail or two i dont mind paying the extra as long as she is safe. apparently lungworm can be caught from slugs, snails and frogs and i have all three in my garden! Im just glad i heard about it before anything happened. Better to be safe than sorry! Di x ps loved the picture of you and Jan.
