A long shot!
Posted On: 06/08/2008 19:22:18
Lilia has developed a new and disgusting habit - rolling in poo! So far this week i've had pig poo, horse poo and tonight either fox or badger - she stinks! Does anyone know a way to stop a dog doing this (apart from the obvious one of keeping her on a lead or moving to the town!). Or has your dog done this and grown out of it! Its making an enjoyable thing (walking) a nightmare when i get home. I have to try to hold her down and wash her at the same time! Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Debs, Lilia isnt satisfied with rolling in it she will eat it too! God love her. How is Shadow these days is he behaving and are you enjoying him to the full now. I look back at the first few horrendous months with Lilia and laugh now. Shes a real star (apart from the odd bad habit or two!). Take care. Di xx

Hi Di, my naughty little harley does exactly the same.  He rolls on dog poo and I am sure he would roll on any animal poo if he had the chance!  Muffin however doesn't do it she just tries to eat it!!  what a nightmare!! haha  I try to watch harley all the time and when I see he is going to roll on poo I just say NO! but I am sure this is not the way to do it.  He doesn't do it now as much as before so I guess he will grow out of it eventually.  I will keep an eye open on this blog to see if somebody can suggest a remedy!!!  you take care and keep smiling!  kisses to smelly lilia lol xx

Hi Di,sorry to hear about the smelly mess,LOL.Well,as you know Leo had that encounter with the horse a couple of weeks ago,i've since spoken to my vet and she has advised me on getting a spray collar for the problem. She said that it also works for a whole range of problems and i should imagine the rolling in poo would be 1 of them!!!!!!It's not harmful, just a distraction. The only problem is that they are not cheap, your probably looking at about £165.It all depends on how much you hate having to bath her everytime you come home.I've also seen it on a website to rent,it's a case of shopping around.Let me know if you give it a go.Speak soon,Sam.
Hi Sam, thats a small price to pay! My house is starting to smell like Noahs Ark! I will look into that. Thanks Di x
