ADVISE ON 2 DOGS
Posted On 01/09/2008 12:02:51
To all of you that has 2 or more dogs .As you will know we have Tia how is 6 months old and she is so good that i want another staff but my heart is saying yes,my head is saying no .I've had some good advise from lynne but just wanted to know others thoughts on the matter,i've a lot of questions running around like what if Tia doesn't like the new dog,do i have a girl or boy ,when i go out and have to leave them do i leave them in the same room ,i'm a stay at home mum so really the only time would be bedtime .This might seem a silly question does it really matter if a dog has papers or not.My main concern is if they wouldn't get on .As much as we love our dogs do you some times wish you never had that 2 nd dog. Please feel free to leave any advise i'll take it all on board, many thanks maxine

14 pups
Posted On 25/07/2008 11:35:38
10:30 - 24 July 2008

Now that is what you call a proud mum!

Patch, a Staffordshire bull terrier, has given birth to 14 puppies - one of the largest litters breed experts have seen.

Owners Chris Rogers, 26, and Lisa George, 38, of South Wigston, are helping out the tired mum while they search for good homes for the seven males and seven females.

Patch belongs to Chris and the father, a Staffordshire bull terrier called Brian, belongs to Lisa.

The pups have taken over parts of the kitchen and space under the stairs, following their birth on Monday night.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Patch is doing sterling work in looking after her babies, even if she does need a little help from Lisa and Chris from time to time.

Lisa said: "They are all live and kicking at the moment.

"We are thinking of keeping one, and five are already reserved for friends and family.

"We just want the rest to go to good homes.

"It was just such a shock to see so many. We expected between four and seven, not double that number.

"Patch is an absolutely brilliant mum. She has put up with a lot because lots of people have been coming round to see the puppies."

Patch is being treated to regular doses of fresh mince and eggs while feeding the pups.

As she has only nine nipples, the pups have to be rotated in order to drink their mother's milk.

Some are still a little weak and Lisa and Chris are having to bottle feed them.

Patrick McGlynn, chairman of the Staffordshire bull terrier breed council, said: "A litter that big is very unusual. It's certainly one of the largest I've known about.

"It will be very difficult for the bitch to deal with all of those pups. When Staff bitches are pregnant, they need to be fed about four times a day. With a litter this big, she is going to need plenty of food now, too."

Louise Ritchie, of Eyres Monsell, Leicester, has owned Staffordshire bull terriers for seven years.

She said: "My first bitch had 11 pups and everybody thought it was a really big litter.

"This is certainly one of the biggest I've heard about.

"The reason I got a Staff in the first place was their reputation for being good with children.

"They are loyal and still have the fun factor."

Although the dogs have a good reputation, because they are sometimes wrongly confused with pit bull terriers - some types of which are banned in the UK - they are difficult to re-home.

The couple are keen for the puppies to go to good homes and anyone interested in owning one should call Lisa on 07779 296308.

we're not going abroad this year (turkey love it )as we have Tia and i wont put her in kennals as she's to young, but we're going skeggy on the 3/8 for a few days in the in laws caravan ,it's a break ,if any one is down that way do say hello.ps anyone travelled on a train with a dog before .i'll take Tia's comfort blanket which she loves and hoping she'll settle down on that national rail rules for dogs is that if a fellow passenger doesn't like the dog it has to be moved ,if that's the case we'll all get kicked off because as my partner say's i can't keep my mouth shut, let's hope everything goes ok .watch this spacexx

Posted On 18/07/2008 08:30:36
EVERY NIGHT I TAKE TIA FOR A WALK ON THE LOCAL PARK ,ONCE WE'VE AWAY FROM THE ROAD I LET HER OF THE LEAD SO THAT SHE CAN HAVE A RUN AROUND AND PLAY. I'VE DONE THIS SINCE SHE WAS 11 WEEKS OLD WITH ME GIVING HER A TREAT ON HER COMING BACK TO ME . THIS HAS BEEN WORKING .PANIC.LAST NIGHT WE WALKED AROUND THE PARK AND WHEN I CALLED HER TO COME TO ME TO GET HER BACK ON THE LEAD SHE DID UNTIL SHE PICKED UP A STICK TURNED AWAY FROM ME AND STARTED TO WALK TOWARDS THE ROAD I KNOW THAT SHE WAS GOING TO MAKE HER WAY HOME .PANIC.I CALLED HER A FEW TIMES AND STILL SHE WALKED OFF, I SAT ON A BENCH TO SEE IF SHE WOULD COME  BACK AND NO SHE DIDN'T.LUCKY ENOUGH A LADY AND HER LAB CAME ON THE PARK AND TIA STARTED TO PLAY WITH THE DOG AND SHE VERY KINDLY GOT HOLD OF TIA'S COLLAR.I CAN'T TAKE HER PUPPY TRAINING AS THERE IS NO ONE LOCAL AND I DON'T DRIVE ,DO I KEEP TIA ON THE LEAD IN FUTUREXX
