Lilias novelty dog show
Posted On 24/08/2008 18:08:22
Today Me and Mum took Lilia to a Novelty Dog Show just to get her used to socialising with other people and dogs as it is just usually the two of us at home. As it was for the lcoal church we entered a few classes. First one was dog with the loveliest eyes and to my amazement she can third (I think her eyes are scary!). Another class was dog most like its owner. Well me and Lilia arent remotely alike so mum took her (Mum has gray hair and has a larger build than me!). Can you believe they got first prize. I dont think i've laughed so much in ages. The last class was dog the judge would most like to take home so i thought we'd go in that and it was all going wonderfully until we walked past the judges table and Lilia launched herself at it and got a chunk of fruit cake! Needless to say we werent placed in that. Anyway judge mum and Lilia for yourselves.

A long shot!
Posted On 06/08/2008 19:22:18
Lilia has developed a new and disgusting habit - rolling in poo! So far this week i've had pig poo, horse poo and tonight either fox or badger - she stinks! Does anyone know a way to stop a dog doing this (apart from the obvious one of keeping her on a lead or moving to the town!). Or has your dog done this and grown out of it! Its making an enjoyable thing (walking) a nightmare when i get home. I have to try to hold her down and wash her at the same time! Any advice would be appreciated!

Pig poo slurry pit Part 2
Posted On 29/07/2008 18:13:15
Following my last blog regarding Lilias great escape heres an update. I saw the farmer who owns the field today. He said they had put a new fence and gate around this pit - which they had - unfortunately the gate was too high off the ground to stop Lilia. Anyway I explained what had happened and then i got a huge shock. I thought the pit was about 6 foot deep but he told me it was actually big enough that if a tractor went in it would not fill it. He also said that we were lucky that the poo had formed some kind of thin crust otherwise Lilia would have gone straight under.  Now I know it all turned out ok in the end but i cant stop thinking what could have happened. Its not been a great day

My traumatic walk
Posted On 25/07/2008 20:08:05
I was looking forward to my walk tonight to help me unwind after a hard long week at work. I was walking on merrily day dreaming and thinking about what a great day i had today and Lilia was trotting along side happily. All of a sudden she took off even Dwyane Chambers wouldnt have caught her. I could see the object of her desire - a six foot deep pool of pig poo. I screamed, jumped done anything i could to get her attention but she wasnt having it. I ran as fast as my flat feet would take me towards her thinking at least theres a fence and gate around it she should be ok just as she disappeared under the gate. By this time i was sobbing hysterically and screaming at the top of my voice. I got to the gate and there she was just inside on the edge of this pool muching pig poo. Now all i had to do was be calm and gently grab her harness but i missed and she took off towards the centre by this point i was beside my self and screaming at her. I think i frightened her she turned round and was trying to get back to me but it was like quicksand. Every time she took a step she sunk up to her chest. I had visions of having to go in. I dont know if it was sheer determination or that it wasnt too deep but she somehow managed to scrabble towards me very slowly and i grabbed her harness and hiked her out. She was covered but that was better than what i thought was going to happen to her. We carried on our walk and about 3/4 of an hour later she threw up pig poo! I took her to the stream but my god she hums! I dont think i have been so scared in my entire life. Wont be going on that walk again in a hurry.

Eating snails very expensive hobby
Posted On 14/07/2008 21:09:23
After reading Kevins (Golfpag) blog about lungworm i was very concerned as Lilia chomps on snails for a pastime. As she was due to be wormed i went to the vets today and asked them for some tablets bearing in mind the usual worm tablets are about £2 i was stunned when they gave me three lots of 'spot on' treatment and it cost £21! Although nothing is too much for my little girl it looks like i might be surfing the net for these in future. It just seems a huge jump in cost but at least my little girl will be safe now. Thanks Kevin.

Lilias night time!
Posted On 12/07/2008 15:10:39
Last night Lilia and me were both awake at 1 o clock so i decided to let her upstairs. My god she was so excited shes only been up here twice before. She spent most of her time under my bed chewing a pair of socks! She got on the bed and tried to make a nest but i perservered with her and about 3 o clock we both got to sleep. It was nice to have a little breathing body next to me and you were all right she didnt stir until i woke up at 6.45 so (much to my parents disgust!) i think she will be with me night time from now on. Plus she was so excited this morning i hardly needed to have a wash before work - loadsa kisses  but she still went into her cage without any fuss when i went to work.

Dogs sleeping arrangements
Posted On 10/07/2008 15:50:45
Hi All, I'm just interested in where you let you dog sleep at night. At the moment Lilia is in a cage in the kitchen but every morning she starts barking at about 4 o'clock. Last night i left her cage with the door open so she could have the run of the kitchen and conservatory but she still barked. On a Saturday night i tend to sleep on the sofa with her and she doesnt wake up until i do. I cant move the cage upstairs cos theres not enough room! i wouldnt mind her coming on the bed with me but as she was trying to be dominant as a pup i wouldnt want her to go back to these ways. Can anyone share their experiences with me. Thanks. Di x

Sore toes
Posted On 02/07/2008 07:49:23
Can anyone help! Lilia is suffering from sore toes. We've been to the vets once and she got antibiotics which cleared it up but its happening again. It seems to be if we walk through long grass - i suppose the obvious answer is to avoid that but its not that easy! The vet told me it could be an allergy or just an irritation. Has anyone elses dog suffered from this and is there anything i can put on it to stop the itching. I will take her back to the vets if it persists but if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate it. Thanks. Di xx

I feel sick!
Posted On 28/06/2008 08:13:03
Hi All, I took Lilia out for a walk this morning before coming to work. We live in a quiet village but there is one road through it to the nearest town. I walk a little way along this busy (for us!) road with Lilia then cut up a lane. When i got home and took Lilia's harness off i found that somewhen she had chewed through one of the straps and it was hanging on by one piece of strong cotton. I didnt know she had chewed it and i didnt see her do it. What really scared me was there was quite a few cars around this morning and if she had pulled she could have been knocked over - i felt really sick - i dont know what i would have done if this happened. I cant imagine my life without her now. I suppose i'm writing this blog just to say to everyone that uses a harness please check it carefully before putting it on your dog. The only consolation to this is she must be better on her lead and not pulling anymore.
